Polyclinics and Health

If you haven’t heard of a Polyclinic then I am sure you will be hearing more and more about them in the future.

Firstly, we will look at what exactly is a Polyclinic?

A policlinic is similar to a doctor’s surgery but it has a wide range of health care services which can be obtained and it does not require the patient to stay over night. They are often part of the hospital but the difference is that they do not have major-surgical and pre- and post-operative facilities but however they do have some acute care services and provide ambulatory care.

Where Can I find a Polyclinic?

Polyclinics are being established and used in many countries such as France, Germany, Switzerland, many countries in Asia and Africa and in England where they offer a greater range of services than the normal general practitioner (GP) and are said to be taking over from the normal GP surgeries.

What are the main differences between Polyclinics and other Health Care Centres?

Polyclinics normally have a staff that includes district nurses, GPs, community matron and rehabilitation teams. These clinics are said to be more accessible and less medicalized than hospitals.

What care do Polyclinics provide?

Polyclinics vary in exactly what they provide, but if we take an example form a clinic in England which provides GP services, outpatient care, physiotherapy, dentistry, podiatry, social care outreach, mental health services for children and a gym for rehabilitation purposes, we are able to get an overall picture of what is included in these clinics.

What are the advantages of having a Polyclinic?

The main benefits are said to be that patients have fast access to an expert service as they do not have long waiting lists like many hospitals. Therefore it provides a more integrated service. It allows patients who have recently been discharged from hospital and who in the past would have faced long stays in hospitals to now return to their everyday lives and get the support that they need within the community. This means that routine healthcare is being moved away from acute hospitals and is now in centres which are community-based and provide a one-stop-shop for health care.

What are the disadvantages of Polyclinics?

At the moment there is not much evidence to show that the quality of care given in a Polyclinic is comparable to the care received in a hospital, rather there is evidence showing the opposite. There is also concern that these styles of clinics will lead to professional isolation, and will impede on professional development and motivation. Furthermore in a health system which already has a lack of an overall governance structure the polyclinics are feared to reduce the unclear lines of accountability.

Finally the overall consensus regarding Polyclinics is that for them to work effectively there needs to be a large amount of time, effort, and resources put into planning and developing them. The government need to carefully assess how they will work and if they have the funds to make them effective.?

I do not agree witht he idea behind these clinics and the proposal for jy0000-53e and increased polyclinics is ludicrous. I think in the UK we need to work to improve on what we already have, rather than looking to create fancy new-fangled ideas.

In my opinion these clinics can work and are a good idea if they are funded and resourced properly. Treatments such as virility ex need to be easily available for men. Also climinax, which at the moment are difficult to get but can really improve your life.

If there is an increase of Polyclinics it may effect the confidence of the public when learn japanese online they fo to see the doctor. They may want to talk about the citizen skyhawk titanium but may feel to uncomfortable to express how they really feel, whereas with their GP they will feel more comfortable.

Too many of these clinics do not provide enough care such as prescriptions for revitol stretch mark cream and they need to have more time and money invested into them.

I agree that the polyclinics are a good idea in theory but are harder to work in practice. The government need to concentrate on tag heuer formula 1 and making sure that hospitals are well staffed and have enough funding, I thinking they are just sticking a plaster over gaping wound.

I have worked in a Polyclinics and think they work really well if they are set up correctly and have the right amount of funding. There is a charity called makita chainsaw which support the work of polyclinics and are auctioning off some photographic equipment such as canon lenses to raise money for Polyclinics.

I was not satisfied by the treatment I got when I went to a polyclinic, I took my baby in his
sleeping and insomia and had to wait for two hours before I was seen, and even then the treatment we were given was awful. The doctor barely listened to what the problem was and just gave me antibiotics for my baby. I also had questions about wearing mma shorts which the doctor was unable to answer and I felt totally unsatisfied when i left the clinic. Needless to say I’ll be avoiding polyclinics from now on.
